Summer Eyes

How lucky are we to live in a country with such incredible weather!

We’ve all been busy enjoying this incredible summer sun; beaches, pools, skate parks, bush walks, playgrounds – you name it, we do it in summer!

Some of us are now feeling the effects of all that activity. Unfortunately, sometimes no matter how much we slip, slop, slap, and wrap, sunburn still occurs. Ouch. Imagine that burn on your corneas! If you don’t protect your eyes from those strong UV rays with a quality pair of sunglasses (not necessarily expensive, so long as they’re rated to block both UVB and UVA rays), this is exactly what can happen.

Just as well we have a highly trained and dedicated team to help you not only select a quality pair of great fitting sunglasses with the right UV ratings, but they’ll also see if your prescription can be put into your sunglasses! No more squinting to see your friends out on their jet skis and kayaks, and also super handy for driving.

Back to the subject of sunburn, sometimes we can get a tad overzealous with our sunblock application which can result in the sunblock getting more IN the eyes than around them. If this occurs (and you can almost guarantee it will!), simply rinse immediately with clean water. And don’t forget to wash your hands after applying your sunblock. Grabbing yourself a waterproof sunblock is a great idea as it won’t drip when you sweat or swim. Don’t forget to reapply thoroughly throughout the day!

Same goes for pool chemicals, bug spray, etc. If this comes into contact with your precious peepers, rinse immediately with clean water. If further irritation occurs, please contact your optometrist.

Summer’s also a great time for us DIYers to get out there and do all those jobs we’ve been meaning to do but never seem to get around to doing. If you’re out and about doing things like garden work, home improvement projects, etc., it’s a great idea to wear protective glasses. Just as well we have a great range of these, too 😉

So get out there and enjoy this incredible summer, but not before visiting us to ensure your eyes are covered and protected!
