Canon Street Optometrists are proud to source the majority of our lenses from Hoya Lens New Zealand.
The Dispensing Optician and team at Canon Street Optometrists will talk with you about your lifestyle and work habits and will then recommend the best lens design for your personal requirements. Most lenses are customised and individualised to your needs, prescription and visual habits, so don't be afraid to share information with us!
HOYA is one of the largest premium optical lens manufacturers worldwide. Since eye-glasses were invented, lens designs have been limited to a "one-size-fits-all" model. HOYA recognises no two people see the world the same way and has developed an extensive portfolio with award-winning products and services to suit all individual needs and lifestyles.
The way we look at the world and use our eyes has changed over time. We used to spend most of our time looking at far and intermediate distances. Today we primarily focus on near objects such as computers, laptops, tablets, smartphones, gaming devices and books. Most of us don’t realise the harmful effect this shift has on our eyes and vision.
Growing exposure to digital screens
Nearly 60% of us are looking at digital screens for 5+ hours per day and it’s taking its toll on our eyes, causing eye fatigue and digital eye strain. Symptoms can include tired eyes, blurred vision, headache and dry eyes. You may even experience neck or back pain, through stress placed on your cervical spine, if you’re spending long periods bent forward looking at a screen.
Spending a large amount of time looking at digital screens (or any near object) means our eyes are constantly exerting more effort to focus. Put simply, our eyes are working harder, causing strain.
How do Dynamic Sync lenses work
Dynamic Sync lenses are specifically designed for people who spend long periods of time looking at near objects such as digital screens and require glasses to see things clearly in the distance. Dynamic Sync’s superior design has your ‘distance power’ for everyday use and a ‘boost zone’ at the bottom of the lens. The boost zone reduces eye strain during up-close activities such as looking at digital screens, reading or any ‘near task’ activities. The boost zone allows your eye muscles to relax and focus more easily, helping to relieve eye strain and provide visual comfort. This is even after several hours looking at near distances.
HOYA produces some of the most sophisticated and innovative lens technologies in the world. We have a wide variety of multi-focal lenses available that are personalised, customised and optimised to suit everyone's individual lifestyles.

HOYA recognises no two people see the world the same way and has developed award-winning technology that takes into consideration your previous experience with multifocal lenses, the time you spend indoors or outdoors, and your daily activities, which allows us to fully personalise and tailor-make a lens design specific to you.
Lightweight and durable
Your Hoyalux iD multifocal lenses incorporate HOYA's latest design insights and cutting-edge technologies. They are made from a lightweight, durable material and finished with a premium anti-reflection coating, for superb scratch resistance and easy cleaning.
LCD and LED computer and television screens, smartphones, tablets and GPS devices all emit blue light, also known as high energy visible light. As the quality of such screens improves continuously, their blue light emission is increasing. Although blue light in itself is a natural phenomenon – it is present in daylight and helps us to stay awake – excessive amounts can have an adverse effect and cause eye strain and fatigue.
BlueControl is offered in combination with HOYA’s unsurpassed Diamond Finish anti-reflection coating. This durable coating layer offers 75% more scratch resistance than its predecessors and adds even more comfort to lens wearers.
Nulux provides a simple and elegant upgrade from conventional spherical lenses. Nulux lenses are thinner, lighter, and flatter. Nulux lenses provide improved optics and superior aesthetics making wearers eyes look natural.
HOYA's family of Nulux lenses are available in a wide array of lens materials from standard plastic to ultra-thin high index materials, combined with HOYA's best scratch-resistant and anti-reflection coatings.
HOYA Nulux EP
Countless innovations have allowed the Single Vision design to be perfected.
For instance, aspheric lenses (Nulux design) provide a thinner lens with a larger, distortion-free field of vision, whilst double aspheric lenses (Nulux EP design) guarantee focused vision over their entire surface of the lens in all directions.
HOYA’s Free-Form design approach is based on the understanding that no two eyes are the same. Their patented Integrated Double Surface Design (IDSD) technology maps the specific rotation of each eye.
Conventional single vision lenses use a spherical front surface, meaning the curvature is constant across the front. For low power prescriptions this design produces acceptable visual quality. But as the magnitude of power increases, distortions appear, particularly at the edges of the lens.
Aspheric lenses are designed to neutralise such distortions, with curvatures on the front of the lens changing from centre to edge. But up until now, aspheric designs have been based on theoretical optical design, with little consideration for how the eye actually moves. HOYA’s Nulux EP is the first aspheric design to account for actual physiological functions like eye movement, as well as the first to incorporate the prescription into both sides of the lens.
Are you blinded by glare?
Glare and reflecting sunlight can impair or block your vision in everyday activities. Regular tinted lenses reduce the amount of visible light, however they do little to eliminate glare. HOYA NuPolar Premium Polarised sunglasses can cover virtually any prescription and are suited for everyone.
Whether you lead a busy outdoor life or enjoy a casual read in the backyard, HOYA NuPolar are the prescription sunglasses for you.
Benefits of HOYA NuPolar Prescription sunglasses:
Sensity is HOYA’s latest innovation in photochromic lenses that provides unparalleled performance and outstanding user comfort. Throughout the day, people face different light conditions that demand a different solution - from light to dark; indoors to outdoors; sunny to cloudy.
Sensity lenses with Stabilight Technology™ swiftly darken to a sun lens outdoors, and revert faster than before to full clarity indoors. Tested across different climates, regions, altitudes and temperatures, Sensity lenses provide consistent light-reactive performance. So whatever the day looks like, you will always have a convenient solution in one pair of glasses.
V+ indoor solution: Understanding your individual needs
Hoyalux iD WorkStyle V+ is the latest indoor solution tailored to individual distances and needs. The three design variations - Close, Screen, and Space offers optional depth and width perception at both near and intermediate distances. Individual wearing parameters can also be taken into account for more accurate correction, leading to significantly wider visual fields. And thanks to the use of HOYA's unique Binocular Harmonization Technology™, its binocular performance is unrivaled.
Binocular Harmonization Technology™
The majority of multi-focal wearers have a different prescription for the right and left eye which can lead to visual imbalance and cause eye discomfort. This unique patented technology considers the right and left eye's individual components and calculates the requirements of each eye. It works to support and balance both eyes, guaranteeing effortless focusing with a more natural and stable vision.
Sportive lenses have arrived!

Plenty of us dislike night driving - there's no feeling quite like getting someone else's high beams shined in your eyes or driving in low-light conditions.
It can also be dangerous, so Hoya have specifically designed EnRoute prescription lenses to meet the visual needs of drivers, whilst also being suitable for everyday wear.
Wearers will experience reduced glare from oncoming car headlights and improved contrast perception.
Ask us for Hoya's EnRoute lenses, and enjoy safer and more comfortable driving.
