Are you blinded by the light?
In everyday life we are confronted with bright light and glare, whether driving to or from work, playing sport, going for a walk, or relaxing at the beach. Bright light, and particularly glare, are apparent in varying weather conditions and virtually all outdoor activities. In addition, UVA and UVB rays, although unseen, present constant danger as they cause damage to the eye just like they do to the skin.
What is glare?
Glare is light that is reflected off a horizontal surface such as a windshield, water, snow, or wet roads. Glare can occur in varying conditions such as bright and sunny, or overcast and cloudy days. The effects of this glare can be very intense on everday vision and can cause eye fatigue from squinting, or can completely block vision.
Why is polarisation so important?
Polarised lenses enhance the most important function of prescription eyewear: improvement of visual sharpness. Regular tinted lenses simply reduce the amount of visible light; they do little to eliminate glare. It is the result of polarised lenses' ability to block blinding glare that makes these lenses the best solution for everyday outdoor visual needs.
How do polarised lenses work?
Polarised lenses contain film within them that acts like a 'Venetian Blind'. This 'Venetian Blind' allows vertical light rays to pass through while blocking the reflected horizontal rays that cause glare.
Many people do not wear the correct protective eyewear which in turn can cause eye fatigue, eye strain, and some forms of eye cancer due to the sun's harmful UVA and UVB rays.
